In conversation with Siddhartha Banerjee, a visionary musician, composer, and mentor, who is redefining fusion music with his extraordinary creation—the Siddha Veena. From receiving praise from world leaders to bridging cultures through his music, he shares his remarkable journey, inspirations, and future aspirations.
Achievers Talk: Siddhartha, congratulations on receiving praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon for your performance at Hyderabad House! How does it feel to have your music appreciated at such a global level?
Siddhartha Banerjee: Thank you! Honestly, I’m still on cloud nine. It was a surreal moment to have two world leaders acknowledge our performance. When PM Modi appreciated our musical efforts, it was deeply humbling, as he has always been a great supporter of Indian culture. PM Luxon’s admiration was an added honor, showing how music truly transcends borders. This recognition reinforces my belief in the power of music to connect people across cultures.

Achievers Talk: You performed with Riwayat Unique Fusion Band alongside Arup Maitra and Sourav Pramanik. What was special about this performance?
Siddhartha Banerjee: Our performance at Hyderabad House was a celebration of the confluence of Indian, New Zealand, and world music. With Riwayat Unique Fusion Band, we blend diverse musical traditions, infusing Indian classical sounds with global influences. The Siddha Veena, my own invention, adds a distinct voice to this fusion. Performing in such a prestigious setting was an unforgettable experience.

Achievers Talk: You have pioneered the Siddha Veena. Can you share more about this unique instrument and its evolution?
Siddhartha Banerjee: The Siddha Veena is a fusion instrument that I developed to blend the richness of Indian classical music with the expressive depth of world music. It retains the soul of traditional veenas while allowing the flexibility of contemporary styles. Over the years, I have refined its structure and playing technique to create a sound that resonates globally. My goal has always been to take Indian classical music to new heights and make it more accessible to the modern audience.

Achievers Talk: You are not just a performer but also a mentor and an artistic director. How do you balance these roles?
Siddhartha Banerjee: For me, music is a journey of continuous learning and sharing. As a mentor, I feel responsible for nurturing the next generation of musicians. Through SB Foundation, I guide young talents, helping them explore the depths of music. My work as an Artistic Director and Founder of Riwayat Unique Fusion Band allows me to experiment and bring innovative ideas to life. It’s a fulfilling experience to create, teach, and perform.

Achievers Talk: Your music has been recognized as a bridge between cultures. What message do you wish to convey through it?
Siddhartha Banerjee: Music is a universal language that can heal, unite, and inspire. I believe that when we fuse traditions and sounds from different cultures, we create something truly magical. Through my work, I want to spread the essence of peace, meditation, and unity. My initiative Meditation with Siddha Veena is an extension of this philosophy, where music becomes a tool for inner transformation.

Achievers Talk: After this global recognition, what’s next for you?
Siddhartha Banerjee: This recognition has motivated me to take my music to even greater heights. I am working on new collaborations that will bring together musicians from different parts of the world. There are also upcoming international tours and projects in the pipeline. Most importantly, I will continue to promote Indian music on global platforms and inspire young musicians to innovate while staying rooted in tradition.

Achievers Talk: Any words of gratitude or final thoughts you’d like to share?
Siddhartha Banerjee: I am deeply grateful to the ICCR and the Government of India for providing such platforms to showcase our heritage. The blessings and support from my mentors, peers, and well-wishers keep me going. Music is a journey, and I am honored to walk this path with the love and encouragement of so many people. Thank you for this wonderful conversation!
