I still remember the day I completed my 12th boards…. I was furious, excited, rebellious. What else’s would you expect from a teenager!
I wanted to explore the world, study in Delhi or Mumbai, little that I knew the journey will not be an easy one. I was lucky to have an encouraging parents! My grandmother whom I called Dadi Amma has always been my strength. She still is an inspiration for me and my siblings. Even at the age of 90 she read newspaper every morning. I think I got the never give up attitude from her.
When I first came to Delhi I was clueless, confused, excited and emotional. I understood the importance of family. Did mistakes and learnt from it! Missed home cooked food terribly! However, I did enjoy the freedom at times. I think I gained a sense of responsibility while I was alone in Delhi during my college days!
After a roller coaster ride in college, I finally started my first job at CNBC ( Noida, film city) The happiness of getting the first salary was immense, but getting laid off after six months was more painful.
I did not give up, kept searching job and worked at an international BPO. I never wanted to ask money from my parents. Not because they did not have the money, but because I wanted to be self dependant. After a struggle of few months I finally got a job in my design field. This was 2010!
It’s been 12 years, when I look back at my journey I realise change and adaption is hard. Changing city, job, country or even a simple habit in our daily life can be challenging. It’s easy to get discouraged when we try and don’t get the expected result, but in long run every step counts!
‘The measure of intelligence is the ability to change’
