The landmark emergency training initiative by NHAI and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, under the campaign ‘Sar Salamat toh Ghar Salamat’, has gained tremendous momentum with the support of Global Confederation of NGOs and Road Safety Omni Foundation.

A large number of NGOs and volunteers across NCR joined hands to make this movement a mass-level success. A special campaign, initiated by Dr. Ankur Sharan, in association with his Global Confederation of NGOs and Road Safety Omni Foundation, saw active participation from executive committee members, volunteers, and key stakeholders. We extend special thanks to all participating NGOs, Amrita Hospital Management, RJ Bhavna from Radio Manav Rachna, Ms. Ekta Raman & Mr. Pratap Chaudhary from NCR Infotainment, Traffic Tau, Ms. Pragya from D2L Learning, Team of Art Nirbhar Bharat, Achievers Talk Team, all our ecosystem partners and volunteers. To discuss this groundbreaking collaboration and its long-term impact, Achievers Talk brings you an exclusive conversation with key members of the Global Confederation of NGOs and Road Safety Omni Foundation.

Achievers Talk: Road safety has been a major challenge in India. What inspired this collaboration with Amrita Hospital and NHAI?
Dr. Ankur Sharan, Team – Road Safety Omni Foundation & Global Confederation of NGOs:
“India accounts for 11% of global road fatalities, and the lack of emergency response training is a major factor behind these tragic numbers. We realized that saving lives isn’t just about better infrastructure; it’s about empowering first responders, ambulance workers, and volunteers with life-saving skills. Through this collaboration, we are ensuring that trained personnel are available at critical accident-prone spots. Amrita Hospital’s advanced medical facilities and expertise in trauma care make them the perfect partner for this initiative.”

Achievers Talk: The campaign ‘Sar Salamat toh Ghar Salamat’ focuses on trauma care and first-response training. How significant is this for reducing fatalities?
Ms. Ekta Raman, Core Executive Committee Member – Global Confederation of NGOs:
“Studies show that nearly 50% of road accident deaths can be prevented if medical assistance is provided within the first golden hour. This initiative equips ambulance personnel and volunteers with essential trauma care skills, ensuring timely medical intervention on highways. The structured training programs, held every three months, will build a strong network of trained first responders.”

Achievers Talk: How have volunteers and NGOs contributed to this initiative?
RJ Bhavna, Radio Manav Rachna & Social Impact Advocate:
“Our network of NGOs, volunteers, and media partners played a crucial role in mobilizing awareness. From organizing bikers’ rallies to educational workshops, we ensured that the message reached the grassroots level. Media plays an essential role in advocacy, and we are committed to driving this initiative forward by encouraging responsible driving and emergency preparedness.”

Achievers Talk: How has Amrita Hospital facilitated this program, and what are its long-term goals?
Amrita Hospital, Faridabad:
“Our goal is not only to provide hands-on emergency training to thousands of ambulance workers but also to build a system where quick and effective response becomes second nature. Amrita Hospital is committed to nationwide emergency preparedness, and this initiative serves as a model for other hospitals and institutions to adopt. We are looking at scaling this initiative with more training centers and collaborations across India.”

Achievers Talk: Traffic awareness is a key component of road safety. What role does education play in changing behaviors?
Traffic Tau , Road Safety Educator & Mascot:
“Education is the backbone of road safety. Enforcement alone cannot reduce accidents; people need to be aware of the risks and trained to act responsibly. Our teams conduct school and community awareness programs to instill safe driving habits, first-aid knowledge, and emergency response skills. This initiative is a step toward a more informed and responsible society.”

Achievers Talk: What are the next steps in expanding this initiative?
Dr. Ankur Sharan:
“Our immediate focus is on strengthening the training modules and expanding partnerships. We aim to collaborate with more hospitals, corporates, and government agencies to create a nationwide first-responder network. Additionally, we are working on digital awareness campaigns, training apps, and a road safety handbook for the common public.”
